emerging from the darkness

Coming out of the darkness seems to be the hardest thing you can do. When everything is going wrong and it feels like the world is beating you up, it can seem impossible. Today I want to share my testimony about how I recently emerged from the darkness.

I moved to New York in October 2015 for a job, knowing that living in the place of my dreams was a blessing from God. The job that brought me to New York quickly turned sour and I didn’t feel like I was progressing in my fashion career. Before moving to New York, I was in a job that frustrated me for 3 years. Even through it all, I knew the job was preparing me for the rewards, so I stayed loyal through those years.

After my job in New York City turned sour, I began to lose faith in God’s promises to me. By this time, I had entered into a relationship that had also turned sour. My job sucked and so did the relationship. As I thought about it, I fell further and further into darkness. I was angry at the world and at God. Questioning why He had sent me to another bad job and relationship. I could not see His light.

In September 2016, my boyfriend and I broke up on a Monday and I was fired on a Friday of the same week. The devil had a plan to end me and keep me in the dark, but God showed me His light at the same time. The two most stressful things in my life were wiped away. It was His light!

There is no denying that He still loves me. The following week was New York Fashion Week. My heart was broken, my heart was broken, but God’s light shone brighter than those issues. During Fashion Week, I noticed that God was beginning to put people in my life that would be a part of my appearance. People who have the light of God. People who are not afraid to be vulnerable or to speak of their past in the dark. It was then that my purpose was revealed.

One of the things I love doing is blogging, but I never thought of it as my career. During Fashion Week, God revealed to me that blogging would become my career. Not only for me, but also for His light. God made me a person who sees His light and encourages me to carry that light. To be that person in the eyes of others. What better way to do that than through my blog. My love for fashion quickly became a beacon of God’s light. He told me that my job was to encourage personal growth through personal style.

The greatest defense against darkness is light. It helps you see. It reveals your purpose. It directs your path. God is that light.
