Disney World is 50! Celebrate with the wildest foods on offer — from ‘toad’ burgers to bathtub sundaes — during your visit

What do you get when you mix traditional Walt Disney World snacks with a little 50th anniversary sparkle? Lots and lots of delicious (and creative!) of food, of course.

“We’ve been preparing for this magical occasion for more than two years,” Fio Casteel, sous chef at Walt Disney World Resort, which begins its 50th anniversary celebration on Oct. 1, told Yahoo Life about the special menu. “You only turn 50 once.”

“You’ll want to enjoy this food with your friends and family,” Casteel added of the items available for the 18-month celebration, “and if you don’t have friends and family to visit, [talking about] these items will make sure you make something while you’re away. “

Casteel’s point is clear. In addition to a hot dog served with a funnel cake and an ice cream sundae in a plastic tub, there’s plenty of whimsical anniversary treats available at WDW parks and resorts that are perfect for sharing.

There’s even a chocolate pork piñata for two, stuffed with candied bacon and served with a mallet, perfect for celebrating special events – not to mention the giant tentacle-decorated micheladas from Be Our Guest restaurant.

   Available at San Angel Inn Restaurante and La Hacienda de San Angel in the Epcot World Showcase, the Chocolate Carnival Pyramid is filled with chocolate mousse and toffee and is served on a Tres Cakes and Ice Cream Scoop. It’s big enough to serve several guests and has so many delicious ingredients to really satisfy every sweet craving. Find this must-try dessert in Epcot’s Mexican pavilion.

4. a drink with giant tentacles
   
   Fans of my octopus teacher, avert your eyes now: this beer-based cocktail, served at Be Our Guest restaurant in Magic Kingdom Park, has a blue salt rim adorned with a giant burnt octopus tentacle. Not only does Squid’s Revenge look wild, but it’s also a special nod to WDW history: Be Our Guest Restaurant is located today where the 20,000 Seabed Alliance was previously located: the Submarine Voyage attraction, a submarine trip that ran through the park for more than 20 years, hence the tentacle theme.

3. “Toad” Burger
   
   Sure, this “Toad” burger may not be made from a real amphibian, but it does bear a striking resemblance to Mr. Toad from The Wind and the Willows. The Wild Toad Brat Burger is made from ground pork sausage, topped with lettuce, pickles and American cheese, and decorated with a pickle “tongue” and two olive “eyeballs. To try a tribute to the vintage Disney characters, head to Magic Kingdom Park.

   Chocolate and vanilla fudge, hot fudge and brownies with whipped cream and red, white and blue sprinkles are served in this festive sundae at Auntie Gravity’s Galactic Goodies at Magic Kingdom Park. Fans of Carousel of Progress, a revolving audio-animated theater show in the park, will appreciate the dessert’s tribute to the Uncle Orville character who appears in the show’s bathtub. As its name implies, Uncle Orville’s great big beautiful tomorrow sundae is served in a bathtub that is guaranteed to put a smile on your face.

   There’s nothing better than a hot dog on Main Street USA, and this special anniversary dog from Casey’s Corner is perfect for both sweet and savory lovers. The 50th Celebration Hot Dog is an all-beef hot dog topped with strawberry bacon jam, crispy funnel cake slices and powdered sugar. It’s the perfect way to enjoy dinner and dessert while exploring Magic Kingdom Park.
