“Wonder Woman star Linda Carter jokes that she “invented the thirst trap”

Lynda Carter is a trailblazer for a number of reasons. But here’s an unexpected one: the Wonder Woman star says she’s responsible for “inventing the thirst trap”.

The 70-year-old TV superhero joked on Twitter that she came up with the idea for the “thirst trap,” a flirtatious and sexy photo posted on social media, usually to attract the attention of others.

“I didn’t post thirst traps,” Carter tweeted, along with a sweltering photo of her climbing out of a pool with her wet hair slicked back. “I invented them! Ha!”

Carter’s iconic television role from 1975 to 1979 broke barriers in a variety of ways. Earlier this month, she kicked off Pride Month with a sweet message for fans and a piece of fan art. The illustration shows Wonder Woman with one arm spread wide in the air, smiling cheerfully, with a colorful rainbow flag in the background.

“Happy Pride!” She tweeted. “Happy to be celebrating with all my LGBTQIA+ friends and fans.”

However, not everyone was supportive of Carter’s post. One commenter wrote that Wonder Woman “is not a gay superhero.” The star was quick to fire back.

“You’re right. She’s a bisexual superhero!” Carter said, linking to a 2016 article that made it clear the beloved character was “typically cool.

The actress later shared the extent to which her character resonated with LGBTQIA+ audiences.

“I didn’t write Wonder Woman, but if you’re trying to argue that she’s not a cool kid or a trans icon, then you’re not paying attention,” she explained. “Every time someone comes to me and says WW helped them when they were coming out, it reminds me of how special this character is.”
