SOFIA ACHAVAL DE MONTAIGU’S MILAN FASHION WEEK RECAP

Fendi

Fendi showed its ’90s-inspired collection at the opening this week. One of the elements that Kim Jones took from that decade was the continued use of the geometric F that was created by the famous Karl Lagerfeld during that period. This was evident in pieces like a laser-cut leather tank and sheer organza dresses and tops. Loose cargo pants add a sporty vibe, while colorful knee-high boots add sophistication to the look. The label’s signature handbags are everywhere, brought to life by accessories designer Silvia Venturini Fendi. The Peekaboo bag featured a chain strap for the first time, while the Fendi First mini bag was covered with tiny chains that looked like jewelry. Neutral tones, with beige as Fendi’s must-have color, and bright colors like green, blue and red added in the middle. In terms of hair and makeup, the production is a classic aesthetic with a touch of freshness. Guido Palau and Peter Philips are the duo responsible for making this happen. The hair is styled softly but thickly, with a little movement in loose waves and fake bangs. Makeup in a minimalist style for a fresh and dewy face. The show was held at Fendi’s Milan headquarters and featured guests such as Mexican actress Ximena Lamadrid, British singer Lily Allen, La La Anthony, Rym Saidi and the brand’s Korean ambassador, Dami Kim.

Prada

Prada’s fashion shows are among the most anticipated and this season is no exception, as the brand announced a collaboration with Danish director Nicolas Winding Refn. The set was created by design studio AMO, who combined Nicolas’ visual interventions into a presentation featuring electronic music and neon colors. The set was black and made of paper, with windows and a video playing behind it. Once there, the video shows different images of the walking shoes and other details, giving us, the viewers, a peek at a house. Prada’s collection is inspired by the ’90s, with gray, white and red being the main colors on the clothes. Accessories like bags stand out because of their size. Shoulder pads were still in fashion, and Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons played with silhouette juxtapositions: oversized blazers combined with leggings. Shoes provide comfort, and platform shoes and flats are the trend of the season. Lingerie dresses are a staple of the collection, as are button-up jumpsuits with shirt collars. One of my favorite looks is an off-white tunic over a matching trench coat, which creates an interesting layering of garments. For hair, the models wore their hair in a center part and naturally wavy hair, while the makeup was accentuated by false eyelashes. Prada’s front row was a show in itself, featuring celebrities such as Storm Reid, Hunter Schafer, Leonie Hanne and actor Lorenzo Caprile.
